Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derails near Cuttack, 11 coaches off track, no casualties reported

Eleven coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express (12551) derailed near Nergundi Station in Odisha’s Cuttack-Nergundi railway section under the Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR). The derailment occurred at 11:54 AM on March 30, Sunday. According to ECoR officials, there are no reported injuries or casualties.

Senior railway officials, including the General Manager (ECoR) and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road, reached the site to assess the situation. Accident Relief and Medical Relief Trains were immediately dispatched. Rescue operations are ongoing, with NDRF teams, medical personnel, and fire brigade officials working at the scene. The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, and an investigation will follow.

The ECoR has arranged a special train to assist stranded passengers in reaching their destinations. Several trains have been diverted, including 12822 (BRAG), 12875 (BBS), and 22606 (RTN). Other affected services include Nilachal Express, Dhauli Express, and Purulia Express, which have been rerouted. Officials are working to restore normal train operations.

Helpline numbers have been issued for passenger assistance. Passengers and their families can use these lines for travel-related inquiries.

ECoR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Ashok Kumar Mishra confirmed the derailment and stated, "We got information about the derailment of some coaches of 12551 Kamakhya Superfast Express. As of now, we have the information that 11 AC coaches have derailed. No passengers have been injured. Accident relief and emergency medical equipment have been sent to the site." Further updates will be provided after the completion of the rescue and restoration process.
